Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dormakaba, a global company for access solutions and door technologies, is dismantling its site in Eggenburg and relocating parts of its production currently located in Herzogenburg to Bulgaria, leading to 120 dismissals.
The press spokesman of the company says the aim is to make use of cost advantages and to strengthen larger sites.
The site in Eggenburg with 95 employees will be closed by the end of 2024. Production will be relocated to Herzogenburg, where 65 of the 95 employees will be reemployed. At the same time, the production of the "Door Locks" product group in Herzogenburg will be transferred to Bulgaria and 90 jobs will be cut as a result. Thus, with the 90 jobs cut in Herzogenburg and 30 employees initially hired at the Eggenburg site not being reemployed, 120 workers are being made redundant.
