Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
RetuRo, the administrator of the Guarantee-Return System in Romania, is working on the opening of its first regional counting and sorting centre for packaging waste in Bontida (Cluj County). In total, there will be 17 logistics centres that will make up the collection network from 30 November 2023, when the SGR becomes operational on the local market. To make them operational and to equip them with the necessary equipment, RetuRO has obtained financing of 426 million lei (€85.8 million) from ING Bank, which has thus become the sole finance source of SGR.
The company is currently running a recruitment campaign for all 17 national centres, with a target of around 600 employees by next summer, of which at least 500 will work in sorting and counting centres across the country.
Romania's Guarantee-Return Scheme will be the second largest in Europe, after Germany, and the second after Iceland in which the state is also involved. RetuRO Guarantee and Return System will thus implement the most important circular economy project at national level, with the aim of achieving the collection and recycling targets that Romania has committed itself to the European Union.
