Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The multinational call centre company Teleperformance has announced an internal restructuring plan which envisions 310 job losses in Spain. According to the company, this Employment Redundancy Plan (ERE) will affect 310 employees, particularly 158 employees in Ponferrada, 110 employees in Seville, 38 employees in A Coruna and four employees in Madrid.
The company has cited organisational and productive reasons as the background behind this ERE. Teleperformance has also fixed the amount of severance allowances for the ERE at 25 days per year.
Workers’ representative organisations, namely CGT, CCOO, UGT, the Galega Interunion Confederation and CSIF trade unions, have strongly criticised the measure, especially due to the good economic results experienced in last years by the company. The trade unions also criticise the low amount offered by the company for dismissal compensation.
The date set to conclude the ERE-related negotiations between the company and workers' representatives is the 3rd of October 2023.
