Vzajemna, the valunatary health insurance company in Slovenia, announced 65 layoffs until the end of 2023.
Vzajemna is a mutual insurance company (cooperative) established in 1999 because of legal requirements for separating voluntary and compulsory health insurance. Its problems began when the Parliament voted to abolish voluntary health insurance and to integrate it into compulsory health insurance and the company had to restructure into a joint stock company.
The trade union and work council oppose the restructuring. Moreover, they claim that this year's layoffs are just a prelude to the restructuring of the company next year, which will require even more redundancies.
