Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The glass factory Steklarna Rogaška, owned by Finnish Fiskars Group, announced 140 to 144 layoffs. The company, producing the crystal glass and hand-made products, ran into difficulties in 2022 and ended the year with €5.6 million losses. According to its annual report, the sale of commodities has been affected by rising commodity prices, energy, and transport costs due to the war in Ukraine.
According to the newspaper Dnevnik, Steklarna Rogaška is to lay off about one-sixth of its 850 employees using voluntary layoffs. About half of the redundant workers are from Croatia. As the company offered a relatively high severance pay, there is reportedly a considerable interest in leaving the company voluntarily.
