Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Amazon, a multinational technology company focused on e-commerce, has announced the creation of 1000 jobs at its newly built logistics centre in Großenkneten, Lower Saxony. The new Amazon logistics centre went into operation on 28. August 2023. Already 350 employees started work when operations began. A total of 750 employment contracts had been signed by the end of August 2023. By the end of the year, the number of employees is to increase to 1000.
The Großenkneten site is the fourth Amazon logistics centre in Lower Saxony together with Winsen/Luhe (Harburg district), Achim (Verden district) and Helmstedt. In total, Amazon operates 20 logistics centres at 19 locations in Germany. Recent cases of Amazon business expansions in Germant have been recorded in the ERM events database Amazon-2022-DE and Amazon-2022-DE. In both cases, the business expansion is the result of Amazon opening a new logistics centre.
