Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Danish supermarket chain Dagrofa which runs the supermarkets Meny, Spar, Min Købmand and Let-Køb has announced that it will dismiss 100 employees in its logistics warehouse in Herning, which will be closed. Moreover, up to 65 positions are being created for new employees at its Ringsted location.
The warehouse in Herning is closing to optimise operations and remain competitive in a sector under pressure. The company has stated that it will try to help the dismissed employees in Herning to find new jobs. In the future, Dagrofa wants to utilise its warehouses in Ringsted and Vejle for deliveries to customers in retail, and its warehouses in Ishøj and Middelfart for deliveries to customers in foodservice. The director for logistics is also expecting that 60-65 new employees might need to be hired in Ringsted.
