Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Danish company Maersk Supply Service has announced that it will dismiss 130 employees over the next two years in Kgs Lyngby. Maersk Supply Service mainly provides support and transportation to oil and offshore windmill companies.
The reason behind this internal restructuring is that the company will focus all its activities on off-shore projects, especially helping with oil and off-shore wind facilities. Thus, on-shore services are being wound down. Furthermore, Maersk Supply Service will focus on the Atlantic and North sea areas and will stop activities elsewhere. The 130 employees will be dismissed during the next two years, with the first dismissals in September 2023. At present, the company employs approximately 1.000 employees.
