Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Computacenter, a European company specialising in IT infrastructure services for businesses, has announced the creation of 150 jobs in 2013 at its two service centres in the Occitanie region, in Pérols (Hérault) and Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales). Most of the positions are for helpdesk technicians, providing remote technical and functional support for major groups in the public and private sectors. A few supervisor and contract manager positions are also sought, although the company favours internal career development. The company has 20,000 employees worldwide including 2,100 in France. Three reorganisation announcements were already recorded on the ERM Database, with 230 job cuts in 2014 (FR-Computacenter-2014a), 270 job creations the same year (FR-Computacenter-2014b) and 150 job creation in 2019 (FR-Computacenter-2019).
