Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The truck manufacturer Renault Trucks (Volvo Group) has announced to hire 170 employees on permanent contracts in 2023 at its site in Blainville-sur-Orne (Calvados). They will recruit in welding, painting and logistics. The management explained that it needed to recruit new staff to keep up with the high level of production. The site is the first in Europe to mass-produce electric trucks. The company recruits mainly from the local labour market, and offers salaries that are on average 30% above the minimum wage. This recruitment drive should bring the number of employees to over 2,000, including a large number of temporary workers. The total current workforce can be estimated at 1,830 employees. Two previous recruitments were recorded in the ERM Database, with 100 job creations in 2018 (FR-Renault-Truck-2018) and 100 job creations in 2021 (FR-Renault-Truck-2021).
