Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Damen Group, a Dutch defence, shipbuilding and engineering conglomerate, has announced its plans to create 227 new jobs by the end of 2023 at the Mangalia shipyards.
The new jobs are for locksmiths, welders, pipe fitters, mechanics, production supervisors and other related experts. The additional workforce will be deployed for the completion of two large, offshore construction projects. In Romania, the company has two large and fully equipped shipyards, which are Damen Shipyards Galati and Damen Shipyards Mangalia.
Currently, the workforce is around 3,300 employees and over 1,000 subcontracted employees who work in the construction and design of ships. Damen has produced over 400 ships for the foreign market, including over 30 military vessels for 13 countries, including NATO and EU Member States.
