Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Vion, an international producer of meat, meat products and plant-based alternatives, has announced the closure of its plant in Bad Bramstedt which will cut 250 jobs.
The closure is a consequence of the current market situation and the general social trend towards less meat consumption, the company says. Vion Food Group plans to close its slaughterhouse in Bad Bramstedt on 31 July 2023. A reconciliation of interests and a social plan are now to be drawn up for the employees, which provides for a transfer to other locations in Germany.
According to the trade union NGG, the declining meat consumption in society is not an argument for the closure. Vion could have continued to operate the site with fewer animals, according to the union.
Vion Food Group has 29 production sites, 16 offices and an average of 12,281 employees with a turnover of €4.6 billion.
