The American tyre manufacturer Goodyear has announced the reduction of 550 jobs at its plant in Fulda, Hesse. The reason given for the job cuts was to reduce structural costs in order to increase competitiveness. In addition, according to the company, falling demand in the car market and high inflation contributed to this decision. As a result, the capacity of the plant in Fulda is to be reduced by the end of 2024 and the management levels of the plants in Fulda and Hanau are to be merged. More than 1000 jobs have already been cut at the Fulda and Hanau sites in 2019. Alexander Wiesbach of the IGBCE trade union said they would not accept the plans and has stated they would try to find alternative solutions in the negotiations to reduce the number of job cuts.
Goodyear Dunlop is one of the largest tyre manufacturers in Germany and employs over 5,000 people. Worldwide, it has 72,000 employees at 55 locations in 23 countries. The company's brands include Goodyear, Dunlop and Fulda tyres.
