Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of the Tecumseh plant in Barentin (Seine-Maritime), which is specialised in the manufacture of pumps and compressors for the commercial refrigeration sector, has announced the closure of the site by the end of October 2023 which will affect 103 amployees. The site will therefore close its doors by the end of the year, due to soaring manufacturing costs, according to the management. The 103 employees at the site will either be made redundant or offered alternative employment. The information and negotiation procedure will begin with employee representatives. However, management assures us that if any positions become available at the group's other sites in the department of Isère, they will be offered to them. However, given the distance and seniority of the employees affected, the number of redeployment opportunities will be very limited.
