Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Spanish Kiddy's Class children's fashion stores chain has announced its closure, affecting all its workforce of 300 employees. Inditex has proposed relocating the staff affected by the closure to Zara outlets in the coming months. However this relocation has to be agreed with the main Trade Unions, together with the possibility of terminating contracts. It is expected that the larger share of affected workers will accept being recolocated.
UPDATE 18/5/2023:
The Spanish fashion conglomerate Inditex has agreed with the trade unions (CCOO and UGT) the relocation of Kiddy's Class employees to Zara after the closure of the 42 shops of the children's fashion brand and the possibility of terminating contracts if the worker is harmed by the conditions of the new position. In the event the new position after the relocation is more than 25 km away the company will pay a travel bonus.
