Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Palavra from Bosnia and Herzegovina has opened a factory for the production of carved and cut veneer in the city of Petrinja and announced the recruitment 100 workers. After collecting documentation and the necessary permits, the construction of the facility began in 2019, but the Covid-19 pandemic and then the serious earthquake in 2020 delayed the process. The construction and equipping of the factory has now been completed, and the company plans to complete recruitment by September 2023. Final preparations and testing of the production process are underway.
The plant covers 10,000 square meters and houses a sawmill, cutting and drying plants, warehouse and office space. Approximately 90% of Palavra products are exported to the markets of the European Union and the Middle East. The local government of the city of Petrinja have secured funds in the city budget for co-financing of the project, while Sisak-Moslavina County supported the investor in efficient solving of administrative and organisational issues.
