Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Prinovis, a subsidiary of the Bertelsmann media group, announced that it will cut 545 jobs by closing its site in Ahrensburg, Schleswig-Holstein.
The company cites the sharp drop in demand for catalogues, magazines and inserts as the reason for the closure. In addition, paper and energy prices have risen enormously. The printing plant is to cease operations on 31 January 2024. According to the company, the job cuts will be carried out in a socially acceptable way and in cooperation with the works council.
The works council and the trade union Verdi do not agree with this decision. They want to examine the situation and will decide onĀ further steps.
In recent years, Bertelsmann had already closed gravure printing plants at other locations - Itzehoe, Dresden andĀ Nuremberg.
