Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Vodafone Germany, a subsidiary of the British Vodafone Group headquartered in Düsseldorf, will cut 1300 employees from its workforce and create 400 new positions, thus eliminating a total of 900 jobs. The 1300 job cuts will mainly affect administrative and management positions, while the 400 new jobs will be created in areas such as engineering and network operations. No information is available on which geographical area is affected by the restructuring.
The company plans to restructure its business and, as a result, reduce full-time positions in management, dual functions and areas without direct customer contact, and create new positions in customer-related areas such as engineering, network construction and major customer projects. As of April 2023, there is no information on when the job cuts will be implemented or the new positions created.
During 2023, a internal restructuring cutting 1,000 jobs from Vodafone Italia was announced and recorded in the ERM database (Vodafone Italia-2023-IT).
