Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Commercial Court of Annecy has pronounced the judicial liquidation of Solemma, owner of the Salamander and Reborn shoe brands, leading to the dismissal of its 100 employees.
The company had been placed in receivership since 26 September 2022 and 19 shops will be closed in France.
A year ago, two buyers bought the Salamander subsidiary for the French and Belgian markets, which was threatened with closure. One of them mentioned a temporary cash flow problem and said he was shocked by the brutality of the court's decision.
The objective of Salamander's buyers was to transform the company into "Reborn", a new multi-brand shoe concept store, also offering its own brand and services based on social and environmental responsibility. A first shop was opened in Strasbourg.
