Description
The television broadcasting company Sky Italia, Italian subsidiary of the UK-based Sky Group, presented a redundancy plan to the unions entailing 800 jobs cut (in addition to the 400 layoffs already announced in 2021 (Sky 2021 - IT), bringing the total number of departures to 1,200). The job cuts are scheduled following a voluntary layoff scheme, which has become essential in response to the effects on business operations brought about by shifts in the macroeconomic environment during the previous year.
The figure has been proposed by the company, but the relevant trade unions are clearly disheartened by this situation and will attempt to counteract the redundancies. Within the plan proposed by the company, there is also an internalisation process (including support for IT systems, post-production and production activities, and support for the active cycle) that should help alleviate the dismissal (through an upskilling, reskilling, insourcing plan).
