Description
The pan-European 24-hour news channel, Euronews, has announced that it will cut 198 jobs out of 500 in total at its headquarters in Lyon by October 2024. This restructuring is part of a plan to redeploy Euronews' editorial staff in Europe as the company is planning to open six new offices in various European capitals.
A negotiation period of several months has been opened with the unions on the principles and modalities of the reorganisation. The management has justified the decision in response to the accumulated financial losses of €160 million over 10 years. It aims to redeploy its staff to six major European cities, and to make Brussels 'the nerve centre of its operations'.
In November 2020, the channel launched a social plan that led to thirty departures, including ten forced departures. In 2012, it had recruited 100 people in the EU (EU-Euronews-2012)
