Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
PostNL, a mail, parcel and e-commerce company providing the universal service obligation for the postal sector in the Netherlands, has announced that it will cut between 200-300 jobs at their head office in the Hague, mainly staff positions in HR and finance. The job losses are the result of the difficult global macroeconomic and geopolitical conditions, with low consumer confidence and high levels of inflation, as well as rising labour and fuel costs, all affecting the companies’ results. The effect of the measure will be particularly noticeable from 2024 onwards. The jobs are reported to be cut by direct dismissals. Besides operating in the Netherlands, PostNL is also active in Germany, Italy, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
