Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish paper manufacturer, Metsä Group, is recruiting around 100 new employees in Mariestad, Sweden, due to the expansion of its paper mill. The construction of the paper mill will start in spring 2023, and recruitment for key positions also during this year. The majority of seeked workers will be multi-skilled production workers with technical skills. The construction of the mill is expected to be complete in 2025. The company estimates that the total employment impact during the construction phase will be around 2 000 person-years.
The aim of the expansion is to increase the availability of locally produced tissue products on the Scandinavian market. The expansion and investment is related to the green transition and reduced emissions when paper is produced locally using new technologies.
Metsä Group is a Finnish paper manufacturer with operations in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Poland, the UK, Slovakia, Russia and the Baltic countries. The company has a total of 9,533 employees worldwide, of which 1,235 are in Sweden.
