Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Finnish group Nokia has announced the closure of its subsidiary RFS France, which designs and manufactures antennas for telecom networks. The closure will result in the loss of 140 jobs, while 25 employees at the Lannion site will be offered employment by the American group Amphenol. Although the company's management cites the competitive market and the reccurence of economic difficulties to justify the decision, employees point out poor management by the group and an imbalance between white and blue collar workers instead.
RFS France, which specialises in satellite dishes, was taken over by the Finnish company Nokia five years ago, after having been owned by Alcatel for a long period. Negotiations with employee representatives began on 13 January and will be concluded at the end of April.
