Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The ready-to-wear retailer Pimkie has announced a redundancy plan that will result in the loss of 257 of the company's 1,386 jobs and the closure of 64 of its 302 shops in France by 2027.
The company, which belonged to the Mulliez family, was sold in February to a consortium led by Lee Cooper France, Amoniss (Kindy) and the Ibisler Tekstil group.
The buyers decided to downsize to cope with a drop in footfall and sales in some shops. The CFDT union, which feared more than 100 shop closures and 450 job cuts, is relieved.
