Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Atlas Technologies B.V., a Dutch car manufacturer located in Helmond, announced that 620 out of 650 employees will lose their job as a result of bankruptcy. All employees are reported to lose their job by direct dismissal. The remaining 30 employees belong to a solar panel factory in Venray, but it is unclear what will happen to them. Trade unions FNV and CNV stated that due to the relatively short existence of the company, they did not have any contacts within the company yet. However, they announced their readiness to assist employees to find new work.
