Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Swedish company for freight transport by rail, Greeen Cargo, will cut 120 jobs, mostly train drivers and terminal workers, on the three domestic routes operated by its Norwegian subsidiary. The jobs are reported to be cut during the first quarter of 2023 due to operation costs having increased more than income in recent years. The decision will also affect around 30 customers in Norway. The company is negotiating with the union regarding implementation of the downsizing. The decision came unexpectedly on the union, and the workers are worried, according to the leader of the Norwegian Railways Association.
Green Cargo is owned by the Swedish state, and started its operations in Norway in 2016.
