Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Chinese telecoms company Huawei is to create 200 new jobs in Ireland over the next five years. The company is establishing its first European cloud hub in Dublin, which will support customers across Europe. Approximately 60 of the new jobs will be filled over the next two years, with the remaining 140 to be recruited by 2027. The new roles will include sales, pre-sales, legal, tax, operational, management and research positions.
The company currently directly employs 510 people in Ireland. Huawei operates in over 170 countries and has more than a third of the world's population as customers. The company has 14 research and development hubs in the USA, Germany, Sweden, Federation of Russia, India, and Republic of China.
Previous cases have been recorded in the ERM database, including a global resutructuring creating 200 new jobs in 2022 (Huawei-2022-WO), and an expansion in Ireland of 110 jobs in 2021 (Huawei-2021-IE).
