Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Ikea, the Swedish multinational furniture and decoration retailer, will create 1,500 new jobs in Spain over the next two years (between 2022 and 2024). The workforce will grow by 15%, from the 9,765 employees it currently has in Spain, bringing the total to 11,230 people by 2024. As the regional leader in growth, one in five new hires will be in Catalonia (22% of the total), with a total of 340 new positions planned for the region. Madrid, Andalusia and Levante are also areas of emphasis for the expansion.
This is the biggest recruitment campaign in Ikea's history, with the opening of 90 new customer contact points (including urban shops and collection centres). The company plans to continue advancing in its omnichannel expansion plan, with a clear commitment to more diverse and accessible formats in order to be closer to the consumer in a much more specialised way.
Previous factsheets on Ikea's operations in Spain have been recorded in the ERM database in 2020, with an announced business expansion of 750 new jobs (Ikea-2020-ES).
