Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Swedish construction company Lindbäcks Bygg initiates cooperation negotiations with a plan to dismiss around 100 people in Piteå, in the Northern Sweden. The dismissals do not currently apply to construction sites but to other workplaces in the company. Due to the declining market situation and a limited portfolio, the company needs to reorganize and review operations and production to streamline and improve its functions. According to the CEO, property owners are delaying the start of new projects because of rising material prices, higher interest rates and an unstable international environment.
The trade union GS Facket is worried about the layoff, as it affects over hundreds of people in a small city.
