Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The pharmaceutical company Lek, located in Ljubljana and part of the Swiss-based Sandoz group (Novartis), has announced a plan for creating 100 new jobs at its Biopharmaceutics unit in Mengeš, which currently has 300 employees. The unit has been awarded ‘Factory of the Year 2022’ for most successful implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept among Slovenian companies, by standing out with its technological advances in production, employee care, concern for sustainable development and business. The announcement for the recruitment of 100 new employees was made by the production unit director, Polonca Kovač, during her award acceptance speech. Kovač also announced that the factory- a producer of active ingredients for biologics and biosimilars- plans to quadruple the production capacity of one of its subunits in Zagorje ob Savi within the next two years (2023 and 2024).
