Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa has announced it will be restructuring, reducing its workforce by approximately 300 jobs in Germany until 2025. Siemens Gamesa has been burdened by high costs, supply shortages and problems with its land turbine, making a restructuring inevitable in order to stabilise the company’s profitability. There is no information on the restructuring procedure, nor on the locations where workers will be affected.
The restructuring in Germany is part of a worldwide reduction in jobs which will affect approximately 2,900 employees.
