Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Grupo Bimbo, the Mexican multinational food company, has decided to close its factory in Paracuellos (Madrid) and announced that 170 employees will be made redundant, as well as a further 31 indirect jobs. The decision was taken in response to organisational and production issues. The site in Paracuellos was used by the company to produce its famous donuts. The conditions of the redundancies are being negotiated. The CC OO union has shown its support for the workforce and has announced a strike calendar. The company employs around 300 workers at Paracuellos (200 of them direct jobs, 100 indirect jobs).
Previous restructurings for the company in Spain were recorded in the ERM database in 2019, with 290 job cuts (Bimbo-2019-ES), and in 2017, with 170 job cuts (Bimbo-2017-ES).
