Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing France has announced the recruitment of 500 employees on permanent contracts by the end of 2024 at its production site in Onnaing, near Valenciennes (Nord). The reason behind the recruitment is to increase the production of the successful models Yaris and Yaris Cross. New employees don't need to have any particular requirement for a diploma or experience in the automobile sector. Employees currently on fixed-term or temporary contracts will have a preferential position in the recruitment process.
Since the beginning of its activity on 31 January 2001, the Onnaing factory has been producing the Yaris model; recently it has specialised its hybrid version running on petrol and electricity. Currently the site employs 3,500 people on permanent contracts and 1,000 temporary workers.
Several recruitment announcements at this site have already been recorded in the ERM database, notably 1,300 recruitments announced in 2020 (Toyota-2020-FR) and 166 in 2015 (Toyota-2015-FR).
