Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German supermarket chain Aldi is to create 140 new jobs in the west of Ireland over the next 2 years. The company is to open six new stores in Galway and Mayo and upgrade four of its existing stores in Galway as part of a new expansion. Some of the new stores are already complete. Recruitment will begin in early 2023.
Aldi currently employs over 4,650 people in Ireland and operates a network of 152 stores across the country. The company also offers its employee a living wage of a minimum of €12.90.
Previous business expansions were recorded in the ERM database in 2021, with 1,050 jobs created (ALDI-2021-IE), and in 2019, with 500 jobs created (ALDI-2019-IE).
