Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The multinational Gopuff- an American company that sells consumer products through a mobile application or its website, intends to lay off its 186 workers (the entire workforce in Spain). The company has submitted to the workers' representatives the start of the consultation period for collective redundancies. The dismissal of the 186 workers would mean the exit of the company from Spain. Gopuff is also planning to close some establishments in France and Luxembourg. Gopuff has been operating in Spain- exclusively in the Community of Madrid- since April 2021. It has several offices and five shops and operates in the so-called ultra-fast e-commerce sector.
Workers' representatives have expressed their opposition to the redundancies.
