Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sibell, a crisp manufacturer based in Aubagne near Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), will end its operations and will dismiss all its 149 employees. The Marseille commercial court pronounced the company's liquidation on 6 July. Employees with over one year of seniority will be able to receive redundancy payments.
This was the second time that Sibell was placed in receivership. In 2019, the Marbour group took over the assets of the company, which was founded in 1988, via its subsidiary Manon SAS. The COVID-19 pandemic and the rising price of sunflower oil have made it even more difficult for the Marbour group to relaunch the business.
