Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Turkish "unicorn" Getir, which is specialised in home shopping delivery in a matter of minutes, has announced a 14% reduction in its workforce worldwide, which would represent at least 250 job cuts in France. But according to an internal source quoted by several newspapers, it would be more or less half of the French workforce and all activities are under threaten. In order not to frighten investors, the management is not specifying the number of job cuts and is resorting to individual redundancies rather than setting up a safeguard employment plan, which would be more costly and more visible for the company. Thus, the number of departures cannot be fixed precisely. For six weeks, the press has been reporting that dozens of employees have been dismissed for various reasons, some departures have been negotiated, and other employees have had their trial period abruptly terminated.
