Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bosch Rexroth, a German subsidiary of Bosch and manufacturer of drive and control technology, announced 230 job cuts at its site in Lohr am Main, Bavaria, Germany. The job cuts at the Lohr site are due to the relocation of servo motor production to Brnik, Slovenia, by the end of 2025. However the job cuts will be partially compensated by Bosch Rexroth's electronics which will be in the future relocated from Erbach(Borsch DE -2022), Hessen, Germany to the Lohr site, which will lead to the creation of 100 new jobs. The employment measures will result in a total of 130 job losses in Lohr am Main by the end of 2025.
In Lohr, about 5,400 people are employed in hydraulics, factory automation and administration. In Erbach and in Slovenia, about 400 people are employed in factory automation each. With a presence in more than 80 countries and 29,600 employees worldwide, Bosch Rexroth generated sales of around €5.2 billion in 2020.
Bosch has also recently offshored 3 other plants, one in München-Berg am Laim (Bosch 2022 - DE), one in Bühl (Borch Werk Bühl/ Bühlertal 2022 - DE) and one in Murrhardt (Bosch 2022 - DE).
