Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Matines, a company specialised in the packaging and marketing of eggs for the retail and catering sectors, has announced to terminate its activities. The restructuring plan has been presented to staff representatives and employees and could lead to the cut of 114 jobs at its various sites in France. Matines is a subsidiary of the Avril cooperative group. An information-consultation procedure has been launched and the cuts may be effective in the autumn of 2022, through the sale or closure of several sites. The employees that may be affected by the restructuring work at some sites in the Brittany region: at the packaging centre at Naizin (56), where 48 employees work, at the storage site in Trémorel (22) with its 6 employees, at the administrative establishments at Bruz, with 24 employees, in Ille-et-Vilaine, and at Saint-Gérand, with 10 employees, in Morbihan. At Brugnens, the only packaging plant for the south-west, 34 employees may be affected. The Naizin site is already the subject of a commitment to be taken over by Sanders, another subsidiary of the Avril group.
A former restructuring case was recorded in the ERM Database, with 72 job cuts in 2018 (Matines-2017-FR)
