Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Romanian subsidiary of the German discount supermarket chain Lidl announced that 100 new jobs will be created at its Fundeni warehouse (Calarasi County). The new jobs are for forklift operators and warehouse workers. Lidl has 300 stores and 5 logistics centres in Romania. In 2022, Lidl intends to expand its self-check-out service across its stores. The retailer is also testing a new store format and will open its sixth logistics centre near Bucharest.
As of January 2022, Lidl has a workforce in Romania of approximately 10,000. Lidl operates in 32 countries worldwide, has over 11,200 stores and 160 logistics centres. Last year the company advertised 2,000 new jobs.
