Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Postnord is a Danish/Swedish postal service company. The company plans to close its letter center in Frederecia and move the activities to its letter center in Høje Tåstrup. As a result, the company will dismiss 200 employees. The dismissals will take place over the next year and should be finalised before the summer of 2023. The company states that it will be in dialogue with the relevant trade unions to find solutions for the individual employees. The main reason for the restructuring is the decreasing demand for postal letters in Denmark. Since 2000, the number of letters posted has been falling down by 80%. The lower demand for postal letters has hit the turnover in Postnord: in the fiscal year 2021/22 the company experienced a deficit of 27 million DKK (app €3,6 million).
PostNord was created in 2009 by the Swedish government with the merger of the Swedish postal service (Posten) and the Danish postal service (Post Danmark). In Denmark, it currently employs 8,285 people.
