Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Aldi, a large food retailer with over 16,000 employees in France, has announced that it will be recruiting 1,000 employees in 2022 to support its development with the opening of around 100 shops this year. Aldi is recruiting 600 employees, as well as 400 on work-study contracts. Of the 600, the vast majority are being recruited on permanent contracts (90% of the group's employees are on permanent contracts). The positions sought concern work in shops and warehouses, and all support functions (marketing, HR, finance, communication and real estate).
Aldi has more than 1,300 shops in France and employs 16,000 people in 13 regional companies. The chain has acquired and transformed more than 500 Leader Price shops from the Casino Group in 2020 and has trained and integrated 6,000 new employees in 2021.
