Description

German-based Heunisch foundry has announced the recruitment of 100 people at its Brno site. It is looking for manual workers. The foundry specialises in gray iron castings, mainly for agricultural and construction equipment. It exports approximately 95 percent of its production abroad. Recently, the company has been facing increased demand for its products, especially from Germany and the USA. John Deere is the most important customer in the U.S. market, importing 2,500 castings annually.

The main problem for the company is the shortage of workers in the Czech labour market. Young people do not want to work in a foundry, because the job is physically demanding, and the workplace is noisy and dusty. At the same time, there are no high school or apprenticeship training courses. The company hopes that Ukrainian refugees will be drawnto this job opportunity.

Globally, Heunisch employs 1,200 people in four plants worldwide; the site in Brno employs about 240 people.
