Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German discount retailer Lidl is to create 150 new jobs in different regions in Lithuania. Following the outbreak of the Russian military actions, Lidl Lietuva announced that it was ready to employ 150 refugees who had to leave their country Ukraine because of the war. The retail chain will offer Ukrainians jobs in 50 Lidl stores in different regions of Lithuania, as well as in a logistics centre in Kaunas. Different job positions may be offered to Ukrainians also at the head office in Vilnius, depending on their qualifications. Lidl will also give €100 Lidl gift cards to the new employees. As other employees, they will receive private supplementary health insurance and financial supplements.
Lidl is a German retailer of food and non-food products. The company owes around 11,200 stores in 29 countries. In Lithuania, Lidl Lietuva started its operations in 2016 and has 60 retail chain stores in 24 cities. Currently, the company employs 2,576 employees.
Previous business expansion is recorded in the ERM database in 2021, with 180 new jobs (Lidl Lietuva-2021-LT).
