Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The US multinational of construction equipment and machinery, Caterpillar, announced its intention to close its production site in Jesi, in the Marche region, which produces cylinders for earthmoving machinery. This business closure will cause the dismissal of 270 workers, including several agency workers.
The decision was announced by the director of the Jesi plant to the trade unions during one of the meetings in Confindustria.
Upon hearing the news, about a hundred employees stopped production and left the plant. Mobilization initiatives were announced by the trade unions, with permanent garrison in front of the gates.
