Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Saint-Gobain Sekurit Portugal, a subsidiary of the French car glass manufacturer Saint Gobain, confirmed that its closure is irreversible. According to the management, the decision comes from the bad financial results between 2018 and 2020 with losses of €8.5 million and €3.1 million between January and September 2021.
The company is offering a 50% compensation over the legal value of each workers compensation, while an expert company has been contacted to help with the relocation of the dismissed employees. The general director of Saint-Gobain Sekurit Portugal, states that a total of 97 jobs are already secured. If the workers accept them; 36 workers will be integrated in facilities of the Saint-Gobain group in Portugal, 51 more workers will be relocated in the Loures and Lisbon regions and 10 in the group's in Spain.
