Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
PKS Nova, the bus carrier based in Białystok, has announced that it will cut between 105 and 205 jobs throughout a collective dismissal programme at its local branches. The source reports that up to 170 employees are expected to lose their jobs. The conditions of the programme are negotiated with the local trade unions, and the programme will affect three groups of employees: drivers, office staff and mechanics. The programme, which will be implemented between 15 November and 14 December 2021, is related to the company’s decision to close its local branches in Gołdap, Ełk and Olecko. The company reveals that the decision has been influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected collective passenger transport.
Currently, PKS Nova empoys 666 staff.
