Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
At the end of October 2021, Koch Industries announced to close its Funkwerk-Molex Dabendorf plant producing chips and smart devises by the end of 2023.
After serious staff protests, the parent company Koch industries decided nonetheless to close the plant and restructure the business. The staff number was already reduced from 500 to 400 employees throughout 2021. In the next two years, Koch Industries wants to shed another 300 positions. The remaining 100 employees are to be employed in Berlin where Molex' will pool the research and development unit.
