Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dutch-based automotive company Stellantis has reached an agreement with metalworkers' trade unions for the incentivised voluntary exit of a maximum of 300 workers from the company's Melfi plant.
The agreement foresees a mechanism of incentives (€75,000 bonus for those who decide to leave the Melfi plant without a slide towards retirement, and corporate contributions for four years for those who decide to leave with connection to the retirement allowance).
The agreement also foresees the institution of a defensive solidarity agreement for managing working hours reductions equally, the start of the production of four new fully electrified models an assembly area for electric batteries by the end of 2024, and the commitment of the company for no redundancies.
Currently, the plant employs 7,150 workers.
